Cayman Brac

Cayman Brac is one of three small islands that make up the Cayman Islands. Situated in the sparkling clear waters of the Caribbean Sea, Cayman Brac lies approximately 145 kilometers north east of Grand Cayman and 8 kilometers east of Little Cayman. Cayman Brac is about 12 miles long and averages just over one mile in width.

Often referred to as the Brac, Cayman Brac got its name from the impressive bluff on the island. ‘Brac’ is Gaelic for bluff. The Bluff rises to an impressive 140 feet above sea level on the eastern side of the island and hiking enthusiasts are drawn to the natural beauty and breathtaking views that can be found there. Deep caves that are home to impressive colonies of bats dot The Bluff. If you are planning on visiting The Bluff, wear comfortable shoes, you will be glad that you did!

The Brac is also well known for its splendid parrot reserve, a large parcel of land dedicated to protecting the unique Cayman Brac Parrot. The reserve is also home to a variety of different species of bird, which in turn attract quite a few bird watchers to the island.

Cayman Brac has a small community of less than 2,000 people. The native “Brackers” are extremely welcoming and enjoy entertaining visitors with stories of the island’s history.
